I am a 78 year old man who has always enjoyed rambling and hill walking. I developed osteo-arthritis in my right hip a few years ago but thought I could manage this as it did not feel to painful and carry on. But my gait became more and more lopsided which finally caused related back pain. After examining an exploratory x-ray Mr Westerman advised a prompt hip replacement. He and his team at the Nuffield were superb, and the aftercare was excellent. I was home the day after the operation, walking round the house unaided after three weeks and returned my crutches after four weeks. Mr Westerman signed me off In just under five weeks with final wise advice about being patient in building up strength again gradually I am profoundly grateful to him and his team for dealing with my anxieties so sympathetically and for such professional Surgical treatment.
