Mr Richard Scawn performed an upper-eyelid blepharoplasty on me in the spring of 2021. I am in my early fifties, and had been unhappy with my eyes for years -- they had always seemed to be puffy, without an eyelid crease. I was forever raising my eyebrows when posing for photographs, anxious that my eyes would be lost in folds of eyelid skin if I was caught off-guard. It sounds trivial but there was no point investing in eyeshadows and practising a smoky-eye technique -- I would look absolutely awful if I attempted any contouring of my upper eyelids with makeup -- and you could only see it if I closed my eyes! At my initial consultation with Mr Scawn, he performed a full eye examination on me and we discussed my medical history, to ensure that I was a suitable candidate for surgery. I was: Mr Scawn advised that I undergo an upper eyelid lift, and also have some fatty tissue removed from my upper eyelids at the same time. For this procedure, a general anaesthetic is needed; so I had to be booked in for day surgery. So within a couple of weeks, I was at St John's and St Elizabeth's Hospital in St John's Wood; and the entire experience was utterly thrilling. Mr Scawn came to welcome me prior to surgery, and marked up my eyes for the procedure. He was so gentlemanly and assuring. The surgery went very smoothly, and as soon as I was out of surgery I could see the difference to the shape of my eyes, even though I was looking rather swollen and bruised around my eyes. I was elated. Mr Scawn came to visit me again and reassured me that all was well, as long as I followed his aftercare instructions -- he gave me eye ointment to take home and use, as well as a gel eye mask to be kept in the freezer and used frequently throughout my recovery. I was home by early evening, rested over the weekend, and followed all aftercare advice. In the first couple of days I was contacted both by Mr Scawn and by his PA by telephone, who wanted to know how I was getting on. I was so well treated; and this is the first time I have ever undergone a cosmetic procedure; I've never even tried botox. My thinking was that I would rather invest in something truly remarkable (surgery) than with injections of toxins for temporary effects. I am so glad that I chose an expert surgeon for a life-changing procedure -- a wiser investment than any temporary fix with smoke and mirrors. Within the first week after surgery, the bruising and swelling had gone down and I could FaceTime friends and family without them noticing anything. Not a thing! And it's amazing, but the beneficial effect the eyelid surgery has had is more about my happiness than anything else. Why? Because I like looking at myself again; I like buying makeup for my eyes now; and I love the positive effect this surgery has had on my (hitherto battered) sense of wellbeing. I cannot think of anything that Mr Scawn could have done to have made this a better experience for me. The entire experience has given me joy, and that's something I'd not felt in well over a decade. Mr Scawn is an expert and a gentleman; my eye surgery was worth every penny.
