Having suffered for a number of years with severe lower back and leg pain, I was really lucky to have been referred to Mr Sunderam by a friend/nurse who had worked for him. From the very first consultation with him, I was immediately sent for an MRI scan, which came back with a degenerative disc problem in my lower spine. After explaining comprehensively the details of this and the severity, I was offered a nerve block injection firstly which helped for a few months, but then I was back to debilitating pain again. I went back to Mr Sunderam who sent me for another X-ray and MRI scan and this showed my problem had worsened and without hesitation he recommended an operation on my spine (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion). Being 78 yrs old, albeit very fit otherwise he immediately put my mind at rest, explained everything fully and reassured me that it would be the best option for me and would be very safe even taking my age into consideration. I had the operation and from the moment I woke up I realised I had no pain whatsoever! After taking (as recommended) morphine and paracetamol for 3 days, I did not need any further painkillers. I was up and about walking around the house unaided within a few days and have continued to progress since. Mr Sunderam rang me at home to tell me the operation was a 100% success which I was obviously delighted to hear and since then (now 7 weeks later) I feel elated that I can go walking again and do all the normal things I used to do pain free easily. Thank You so much Mr Sunderam for giving me back my life!
