After 5 years of various medications and physio, the condition in my lower back continued to deteriorate to the point where l became wheelchair bound and in extreme, debilitating pain. At my first meeting with Mr Sundaram he discussed my X-ray and mri scan and fully explained his diagnosis of my condition. I was shocked by the severity of my back condition, but he was very patient and understanding, explaining the procedure for an operation and all the risks involved, including the need for rods and screws to be fitted. I needed time to absorb this information. The damage to my spine, shown on the scan and X-ray were quite frankly upsetting. He sensed this and we arranged for another meeting. At no time did l feel pressured into making any decisions. By the time of our next meeting l had already decided on an operation due to my worsening condition. Mr Sundaram still fully explained all the procedures and possible complications, but l had every faith that he would do his best for me. On the day of my operation l saw Mr Sundaram before my operation where he again checked that l was still willing for the operation to go ahead. I understand that it was a long and complicated procedure, but l feel it has-been a complete success with a dramatic improvement in the quality of my life. The pain from before the operation had gone and some 6 weeks later l am able to walk over a mile. l have no hesitation in recommending Mr Sundaram, as he is a caring, gifted and brilliant surgeon.
