I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2016 and was told that I would need to have a mastectomy, I knew immediately that I wanted to have reconstruction at the same time and was referred to see Mr Turton. At my first appointment I was frightened and had a list of questions that I wanted to ask, I felt at ease almost immediately, it was decided that an implant would be the best option for me and I was booked in for surgery the following month. The surgery went well and two weeks after I was given the all clear, I did not need chemotherapy or radiotherapy, a few weeks later though I was admitted back into hospital with cellulitis and was told that I might have to have the implant removed if my body rejected it and was put on intravenous antibiotics for five days, I was given two more courses of antibiotics before it finally cleared up. I had a reduction and uplift on my other breast last November and the results are excellent, I then had a nipple tattooed on my reconstructed breast a few months ago. I can honestly say that the treatment that I have received as St James Hospital has been first class, I would like to thank Mr Turton, his team and the staff on ward J23 for their support through a difficult time.
