After a routine mammogram I was recalled to Charing Cross hospital for another scan and biopsies etc.I was completely shocked to be told I had breast cancer. Even though I work with patients who are dealing with trauma and cancer, I still found it hard to believe. I was fortunate enough to be seen by Dr Thiruchelvam and his nurse Orla O'Neill. During our session he explained everything and told me my options regarding treatment. We decided that surgery was the best way forward, followed by radiotherapy. It involved a lumpectomy on my left breast and a reduction on my right. Orla was extremely kind and patient, she explained the process and what to expect, the possibilities of any problems that might be incurred and the probable outcome. Everything was handled so quickly and efficiently it was incredible. The day of surgery I was anxious, but I knew I was in very capable hands. I couldn’t have wished for better care. That was four weeks ago. I had my follow up appointment last week. The cancer had been successfully removed, it hadn’t spread, I am cancer free. I am delighted with the shape and symmetry of my breasts. Quite frankly the results are amazing. He is a brilliant surgeon and I would highly recommend him to anyone who has to have breast surgery. I found him to be very approachable, down to earth with a good sense of humour. A huge thank you to both Dr T and Orla for getting me through a very scary situation with your care, compassion and medical skills.......
