I was having an operation on my ear to remove some benign skin cancer. There were two female nurses present and I was given several local anaesthetics. Once they’d started working, myself, Mr Drake and the two nurses started chatting; Mr Drake is from Glasgow where I used to work and I had a very relaxed and entertaining chat about the bars in Glasgow, the docks, Scottish TV where I worked, restaurants, old cars and bookbinding and Brighton eateries. I don’t know what Mr Drake actually did but it was about a week later that I returned to the hospital to have the dressings changed and realised that my planned film career as a stand in for Star Trek’s Mr. Spock was a non-starter as it is almost impossible to see any difference between my two ears. The whole experience at the General was marvellous from the receptionist through to the organisation and keeping me updated on progress. Thanks to everyone, such a totally different experience to what one sees in the media.
