Having been diagnosed with colorectal liver metastases which is cancer that has spread to the liver from the colon and having undergone chemotherapy the cancer team suggested there was an opportunity to have an operation which was for a staged liver resection which meant removing the liver in two separate operations and the surgeon I was referred to was Mr. De’ Liguori. I came out of my first clinic with him feeling uplifted and totally confident and at ease about the operations ahead. He explained the surgery and whole process as well as the high risks involved and he explained it in such a way where he broke everything down into lay terms so me and my husband fully understood everything, and he answered all questions that we had, taking the time not to rush us which made us feel valued. Our next meeting was on the day of the operation where he came to see me again and explained what was going to happen and again asked if there were questions. I had the operation and was in The Alexandra Hospital for around 2 weeks afterwards and Mr. De’ Liguori came to see me everyday to check on my progress. He advised the nurses and medical team where medication needed to be changed, increased or reduced, again making me feeling very confident in his approach to my recovery. I was discharged home and then revisited his clinic to talk about the second operation and he explained how this would be much more complex than the first. I felt he was very professional, attentive and empathetic to my situation. I underwent the 2nd operation and again he came to see me daily or in the evening after his clinics or other operations he’d done and he must have been tired but at no point did I feel as though I was a burden. I had some setbacks in my recovery and he came up with solutions what the medical team should do and sent me for various scans. Having spent several weeks in hospital I am now at home recovering with further appointments planned to see him. Having cancer is like being on a rollercoaster where you go through every emotion possible, having Mr. De’ Liguori in my corner has given me the strength to fight cancer even more and his knowledge and expertise, professionalism and understanding has made my road to recovery possible. I would unequivocally recommend anyone who has a similar condition to place your full trust in him, his expertise is second to none and is a credit to his profession. He even visited me on Easter Sunday during my hospital stay and brought me an Easter egg which was a fantastic gesture and made me smile!
