Saw Nick about a full rupture of right distal bicep on the Friday after injuring it climbing on the Monday. Nick assessed the arm and asked if I wanted it fixed. He ran through the options of fixing versus leaving the rupture alone. As I climb and wanted to get back to climbing, I asked for it to be fixed. I attended surgery the folding Tuesday (8 days after the injury) and saw Nick after the surgery. All went well, he said. I had the stitches out 10 days later, when the arm came out of the sling and bandages. Very neat scar on right forearm and good tendon attachment. After the first month (just movement to restore flexibility and full range of arm positions), I went back to climbing. Just light, easy routes. Have been climbing twice a week since and getting back to where I was before the injury. Had my 2 month check up today, admitted I'd been climbing and showed Nick a video of what I'd been doing. He was, perhaps, a little taken aback by the amount of use I was putting it through but was happy that I was being sensible with what I was doing and that I had no issues with it. I'll wait another month or so before returning to full training with pull ups and chin ups (the full flexion is the bit I'm most cautious with) and I'm sure the bicep will return to its normal size once I start putting more weight through it. Overall, really nice guy who had done an amazing job on reattaching my bicep. Really professional but friendly and a very skilled surgeon. Amazing stuff, can't believe that in less than 3 weeks from injuring myself, I was out of bandages and stitches removed, all on the NHS and I was back climbing 4 weeks later. Thanks Doctor Nick!
