I had a thorough consultation with Dr Anjarwalla who took plenty of time to run through the options with me and their relative risks.
This gave me the information I needed to weigh up different levels of intervention. These range from "do nothing" through a spinal injection 20% chance of long term fix up to a spinal operation with a better than 50% outcome over a 10 year period with a 3-4% chance of a life changing accidental nerve (or other) damage. In all cases, my problems cannot be proven to be caused by the cyst he showed me on the MRI but probably are. Also, he was clear that he might remove the cyst in an operation but not the underlying cause. So, it is not what I wanted to hear or see but it was very clear and factual.
