I am very grateful to Mr Faisal and his team for the excellent care and support during my 2 recent hip replacements in less than 4 months. I would recommend him and the Nuffield Hospital without hesitation. Before my first operation he explained everything fully and put my mind at rest. I was still very concerned about the operation though as it was the first operation I had ever had in my life. The pre-op was also very good with helpful, supportive staff. Nevertheless, by the morning of the operation I was still undecided whether to have a general anaesthetic (something I feared) or a spinal (something I feared even more). At one point I had the Mr Faisal, the anaesthetist and Head Nurse, plus my partner all round the bed discussing my dilemma. I have to add, before this point my partner and my daughters (both of whom had spinals for caesareans), were totally against it. However after having everything explained to me fully, including the 'fors' and 'againsts' I opted for a spinal. Even my partner agreed! It was the best thing I did. Once they had prepared me for the operation I just went to sleep and the next thing I remember was Mr Faisal saying everything has gone very well. I had some water straight away and a cup of tea as soon as I got on the ward. The spinal wore off gradually, with no pain and I was out of bed the same night. No I didn't have SuperPath but my scar is not very large and healed quickly plus I was driving in 5 weeks. The pain was contained by drugs and only hampered by my other hip which was badly in need of surgery. 18 weeks later I was back in hospital for my 2nd operation and this time I can honestly say that I was looking forward to it and I came out of hospital in less pain and discomfort than I went it. 6 weeks later I am walking well, I can even run and already down to 3 paracetemol a day. My only regret is that I waited so long to have it done.
