Mr Akmal is a fantastic surgeon who has changed my life. I was suffering with sciatica in my right leg and lower back pain, caused by degeneration of facet joints which led to spondylolisthesis (vertebra slippage) and spinal stenosis. The resulting nerve entrapment was excruciating. Mr Akmal listened carefully to my symptoms and looked at my MRI scans before recommending spinal decompression surgery combined with the insertion of a dynamic stabilisation device (Coflex titanium implant). He carried out this surgery in June 2023 and I have been so pleased with the results. The pain is already hugely reduced after just 2 months, and it will continue to fade as the nerves mend and the site of the surgery recovers. I would highly recommend Mr Akmal for spine surgery, together with his wonderful team at the London Spine Unit. The pre-op, op and post-op care is superb, the anaesthesia is wonderful with no fogginess or nausea after the operation, and all nursing, medical and surgical staff are highly skilled, caring and patient. I cannot thank them enough for the difference they have made to my life.
