The ongoing march of aging once again saw me seeking help from Mr. Akmal and his Team at the London Spine unit. Having had a very successful disc replacement & fusion surgery back in 2023, further deterioration in other joints resulted in needing another bout of disc replacements and fusion in my cervical spine, and cortex spacers in my lumber spine. In late 2025 I embarked on another session of surgery and underwent the operation to replace, fuse and insert spacers in the offending areas of my Lumber & Cervical spine. Both areas were treated in the same surgery and having entered at 07:00, I once again walked out at 18:00 on the same day. 2 weeks later the key hole wounds had healed I was off painkillers and well on the way to full recovery. My experience again is a testimony not only to the personal skill and empathy of Mr. Akmal, but to all the people who enable such life changing surgery to happen, including the anaesthetist, surgical team, and ward staff. The successes of the surgery undertaken by Mr. Akmal and his highly skilled team are due not only to their professional skills, but to the holistic approach taken from diagnosis, explanation of options, type of painkillers and follow up care. Whilst the impact of aging and bodily wear cannot be escaped, Mr. Akmal does offer options to improve quality of life immensely. An interesting footnote is prior to the surgery I was suffering from Hypertension, post surgery my BP is back to normal for my age, a reflection of how chronic pain can affect you in more ways than one....!!

I have had two consultations at the clinic, both with Dr. Akmal. I must say that I was immensely impressed, firstly, with the level of professional care provided. I was seen by the doctor, referred to an MRI, walked back to the clinic and was immediately able to discuss the findings, diagnosis and the treatment plan. Neck pain is a worrying condition, and the speed and professional care helped me a lot in alleviating my worries. After 30 years of relentless back pain, Mo Akmal fixed it in a day! Excellent service from the hospital, all the way through the procedure from arrival to departure on the same day was managed perfectly. Thank you all for a great job. 4 big screws, 2 rods and a Coflex device sorted everything out. Amazing it was all done through a 60mm incision with no visible stitches. Healed with virtually no scarring. Excellent.

I had herniated disks in my neck giving me pain for around 5 years. I had seen consultants elsewhere with no results as they only offered me single steroid injections. Once I moved to Mr Akmal we re tried the injections and laser surgery. Mr Akmals injections were much more comprehensive than the injections I had before. Even though it still didnt give me long term pain relieve. I opted to have a single level cervical disk replacement and single level fusion. I went home the same day as the surgery. It was probably one of the best decisions I took to see Mr Akmal. I am back to doing physical activity and enjoying life the way I used to. I would recommend anyone with spinal issues to make Mr Akmal your first stop.
