As a 131kg patient Mr Bittar was reluctant to carry out surgery due to his knowledge and experience of the recovery being difficult. I was asked to diet but 15kg in 2 months was a little unrealistic which was confirmed by the dietitian. I began a weight watchers plan and was losing a realistic amount of 1kg per week Dr Bittar recommended a no carb diet which did not agree with me and I struggled to lose any more weight after the first six weeks or so before my operation. Mr Bittar agreed to do the operation explaining I had a higher mortality risk. My experience on ICU was quite disorientating and difficult at times but the staff were patient and attentive, giving good care as well as updated information regarding recovery. I would especially like to mention ICU nurse, Fatimeira, who gave excellent care and aided my recovery and mobility by carrying out the OT recommendations of marching on the spot. I was impressed by Mr Bittar's daily - sometimes more than once- visits to check on my progress, giving honest opinions and details on how recovery was going. Today I have been discharged by Mr Bittar with everything being successful which I am very grateful for. I would like to say thank you to Mr Bittar and his secretary Annie for everything they have done.
