I initially approached Mark with a view to having lens replacement. Following a very thorough eye examination and consultation Mark recommended a different approach. Having clearly understood my lifestyle needs + my desired outcome he proposed laser surgery on just one of my eyes to correct my distance vision. Leaving the other (short sighted) eye untreated would mean that one eye would give me the vision I needed for tv & driving without the need for glasses or contact lenses & the other eye would give me great close vision for much loved reading & computer work, again without the aid of glasses or contact lenses. So the aim was the same as lens replacement - 20/20 vision This alternative approach meant a less invasive surgical procedure & a considerably reduced financial outlay. I was impressed at his desire to give me the result I wanted in the safest & least expensive way The day immediately following surgery Mark called me at home to check that I was feeling ok. He picked the moment to call when my eye was feeling its most sore & I'm sure he knew that - hence the reassurance over the phone. Unfortunately, the first surgery did not produce a great result. Mark explained that a small percentage of people's eyes do not behave as predicted & I was one of those people. The surgery over corrected my short sightedness leaving me with long sight instead. This meant that everything close up appeared blurred It's times like this when you learn who is professional and who isn't. Mark explained everything very clearly to me so that I understood what had happened & what could be done about it. In short, it meant a second procedure to correct the problem which was carried out a few months later once my vision had properly settled. Mark was very empathetic towards my situation, clearly wanting to reassure me & scheduling my surgery as soon as he could within safe parameters. Did he charge me for the second procedure? Of course not! After the second procedure I was delighted with the result. A week later I was sitting on Number One court at Wimbledon watching Roger Federer in full technicolour, CLEAR vision from near the back of the stadium. It was a great moment & worth the wait! Everyone I have come into contact with at Optegra in Birmingham have been extremely professional and kind. I would recommend this surgeon & his team to anyone thinking of eye surgery to correct defective vision
