I met Mr Norton 11years ago when I was referred to him for post MRI results which showed a shadow on my sacrum, I was apprehensive about the result but Mr Norton put me at ease saying it was nothing to worry about and that it was just a cluster of red cells, I was so relieved, also at that appointment he informed me of the presence of osteoarthritis in both my hips the left being the worst and I would probably need a hip replacement in the future, he was very personable, answered my questions and pointed out details on the screen, I knew then that I had confidence in him and felt that when I needed surgery in the future I would like him to perform it. When my GP informed me in December 2021 that my recent X-ray showed severe OA we discussed my being referred for surgery, I requested to be added to Mr Nortons list which did not happen however I telephoned St Michaels Hospital and explained to the lady she said that there was be no problem and would switch me to his list right away, I was delighted. I met Mr Norton again on the 12th December, I was very glad to see him again, he sent me for an X-ray and upon my return he showed me the X-ray explaining that the hip was collapsing down and that he would put me on his urgent list for hip replacement which would probably be within 3-4 months, I was shocked to see the deterioration that had taken place in a year, I asked him about the right hip and he said there had been no change which was a relief, he went on to tell me that my leg is shorter because of the breakdown, he explained what would happen and gave me an information booklet containing everything I would need to know leading up to my surgery and my recovery, also I was given a consent form to read and sign pre-op. I thanked him for seeing me and told him I was relieved that it would not be long until surgery. I have every confidence in Mr Norton especially more so when a friend of mine told me he had performed her surgery and that he is an excellent Surgeon and a lovely man. My whole experience that morning at St Michaels Hospital left me feeling relieved and even excited at the thought of being pain free and upright again
