Back in April 2022, I damaged my left knee whilst twisting my leg standing up from sitting on the floor. I had very significant pain which seriously affected my ability to walk and to sleep and to generally carry out normal activities. After attending physiotherapy for some weeks, with pain killers, the serious pain remained. I was therefore referred to have an MRI scan where a meniscus tear was identified. I was told that because of my age, it would have to be decided whether or not an operation could be approved. This was somewhat a shock to me as I’m normally a very active sporty person and did not want to have to try to cope with taking pain killers for the rest of my life. Thankfully, the operation was approved and the surgery was performed 9 months after the initial injury. The operation has been a complete success. I was able to walk without pain from the day after the operation- something which I had not been able to do for months, and 6 weeks later, the use of my leg is practically back to normal and I can start to again live my life properly. The medical team led by my surgeon Mr Joshua Jacob explained in detail the steps of the operation and have been attentive to my questions and supportive in their aftercare. In conclusion, I’m very happy that the operation could go ahead, and that is has remedied the injury, which has been more painful than one could imagine. My only regret is that the operation could not have. In any case, I am very grateful to you all. Best regards, Keith Hallam
