My surgery with Mr Wasson took place during the COVID pandemic in 2021. I had been slightly nervous therefore because we hadn't actually met before the day of the stapedectomy surgery on my right ear. I had also had a very good operation done previously on my left ear by his colleague Ms Neumann.. and was thinking that it would be good to repeat the experience with the same surgeon on the second ear. However when we did meet, Mr Wasson immediately put me at ease. He explained the risks clearly but also gave me confidence that everything was going to turn out OK - much as it had done on the left ear. Every bit as professional and thorough as Ms Neumann. When I came round after surgery, he came to see me (when I was still fairly groggy) and reported that he thought that things had gone very well. Things had indeed gone well. For the first time in quite a while I noticed that I could hear distant bird-song and children playing. I wasn't having to strain to hear the mumbles of disgruntled children and tired older people. When I finally went for the 6 month check, we discovered that there had been a 40 db improvement across all frequencies. I'm not sure that stapedectomies are that common so it's difficult to ask friends about them in order to make the decision 'shall I go ahead or not'? Few know the bother of hearing aids and how deafness can impact on your life by making you feel cut-off and isolated (even if the hearing aids work well, there is always the thought that you might be missing something.) Making the decision is therefore difficult. It's a personal choice. But I'm very relieved that I went ahead. And I cannot recommend Mr Wasson and Ms Neumann highly enough. Thank you.
