In my late 20’s I was diagnosed with otosclerosis. After having 2 children my hearing deteriorated further. I tried to wear hearing aids without success, so I explored the possibility of surgery. I had a Stapedectomy operation to my right ear 30 years ago, it was a complete success and made a huge difference to my life. I knew at some point in time I would need the same operation to my left ear. That point In time arrived, as I have struggled with my hearing loss significantly during the last 5 years. I researched Top Surgeons for stapedectomy surgery and found Mr Lavy, who is the leading surgeon in the Uk. His outstanding expertise and success rate in this field is quite astonishing. I first met with Mr Lavy in February 2023 at One Welbeck clinic , London. During my consultation he fully explained my hearing loss, backed up by a full audiology test carried out at the clinic.Mr Lavy filled me with such confidence, and I knew this was the person I wanted to perform this operation. Mr Lavy is very professional and approachable. He explains everything very clearly, in a very friendly manner. My surgery was booked for March 2023. Two days before my operation Mr Lavy and I had a zoom call meeting to see how I was feeling and to discuss the operation in detail. Leading up to my operation I was naturally becoming nervous, however after talking with Mr Lavy be completely re assured me, and I knew I was making the right decision as we ended the call. On the day of my operation all nerves had disappeared. The whole team at One Welbeck clinic were outstanding in their care and attention. Mr Lavy’s surgical team were incredible and very reassuring. The operation was carried out under local anaesthetic , with sedation, 30 years ago I had full anaesthetic ! Mr Lavy assured me that my recovery under local anaesthetic would be much quicker. I could hear Mr Lavy throughout the operation talking to his team, via my right ear. Then I heard Mr Lavy speak in my left ear and ask me….. Julie, Can you hear me ? I was absolutely ecstatic, and could hear him loud and clear! Mr Lavy confirmed after my surgery that the operation did not present any problems or complications. I left the clinic 2 hours later with my husband to drive home! During the car journey I did experience reverberation in my ear, however I did not experience any pain whatsoever, no loss of taste, balance, or dizziness. Mr Lavy prescribed antibiotic drops for my ear for 2 weeks until my follow up appointment when he removed the dressing. 4 weeks later I visited Mr Lavy for my post-op audiology test, which confirmed the success of my operation. Both ears now have equal hearing, and the left ear has increased by 40 db. I can hear in stereo again and with directional hearing and greater clarity. This operation has been life changing for me and I am so truly Thankful and Grateful to Mr Lavy. He is an incredible Surgeon !!
