I saw Mr Deguara at the New Voctoria Hospital after a scan (for another purpose) had suggested that I had two inguinal hernias He confirmed the diagnosis with a physical examination and then we discussed the options. He explained fully that although the condition could be left, this would mean the symptoms would continue and furthermore there was risk of complications at a later date. The decision was mine to have the operation by keyhole surgery based on his analysis. He later sent me a full description of the condition, the operation and the risks. A date was fixed very quickly for day surgery. Mr Deguara came to see me before the operation and again went through the rationale and the risks. All went well, and he personally telephoned my wife to say that this was the case. He came to see me after I had come round from the anaesthetic and confirmed that he was very happy with the operation. He also explained what I could and could not do over the next few days, weeks and months before making a follow up appointment. He clearly had an excellent relationship with the very good team of nursing staff at the hospital.
