I had my gall bladder removed but there were complications due to some gall stones lodged in my bile duct. The operation took a lot longer than anticipated and I was quite ill afterwards, partly due to the trauma of a long operation and also because an infection developed. The team acted swiftly and appropriately to remedy this with a high strength anti-biotic. I was in a lot of pain, such that I was unable to move for a few days after. As soon as it became evident that I would be immobile for more than a day or two, an air bed was ordered for me. It was explained to me that unlike the bruises on my arms from the needles, I couldnt see the internal bruising and that it would take time for this to heal. I was also low on oxygen and was put on a line for a day or so. I would say that my every problem was addressed and Mr Deguara's team were in very regular attendance throughout my 8 day stay in KIngston Hospital. The nurses were very hard-working and looked after me very well, even when they were short-staffed. I would make mention of Sister Dorothy, who would change sheets and clean equipment, to keep the patients cared for properly. Finally, I have to say, even the food was tasty! I was too ill to eat much of it most of the time but what I left on my plate was left with reluctance!
