I first met Mr Thiruchelvam in the Autumn of 2014, following a routine dental check, in which my dentist happened to notice an ominous looking growth beneath my tongue. She immediately referred me to Chase Farm Hospital and several weeks later, I was fortunate enough to make the acquaintance of Mr Thiruchelvam. He and his excellent support team, put me at ease from the outset. Everyone I encountered associated with him had immense empathy for you; clearly appreciating how anxious patients invariably are when facing such situations. In my case, Mr Thiruchelvam insisted on several biopsies being taken, over a period of approximately two months. These were required in order to ensure that he and his team could establish the best treatment plan for me. Mr Thiruchelvam also arranged for me to have both MRI and Ultra Sound Scans, prior to making his decision about how he would proceed with my treatment. In December 2014, I was admitted into hospital for my (well planned) surgery. Normally, one would be discharged on the same day, but Mr Thiruchelvam insisted that I be kept in overnight; just to ensure that all of my ‘vitals’ had returned to normal and to satisfy himself that swelling had reduced sufficiently, before permitting me to be discharged. Following my surgery, I was seen regularly (and personally) by Mr Thiruchelvam in clinic; initially once every four week, and then later, once every 6 weeks. On many occasions in the past, he has gone out of his way to accommodate my specific needs; this because of another medical condition that I have, which impacts on my ability to keep strict appointment times. In the past, he has worked through his lunch hour on more than one occasion, often in an effort to avoid my having to make avoidable return trips to the hospital - for further biopsies to be taken at a future date. My well being (and keeping me as stress free as possible) seems to be of paramount importance to him; and I am confident that he doesn’t just single me out for preferential treatment. It is clearly evident that he extends the same care and warmth to all of his patients. I will have to continue seeing MrThiruchelvam in clinic, for at least another 3 years. This prospect doesn’t faze me at all. On the contrary, I feel extremely privileged to have such a conscientious and amiable gentleman responsible for my welfare; and I am confident that it would have been impossible for me to receive better care and attention, even if I were being treated privately. If it were possible for me to give him a ‘star rating’ – where 5 stars were the optimal score - he would receive 5 stars 'across the board', for all qualifying categories. I cannot praise him highly enough. Thank you so much Mr Thiruchelvam – you are amazing!
