Following a severe case of Covid19 and a number of weeks in bed, my right hip became very painful and walking was increasingly difficult. In my youth I played a good deal of sport (mostly football) and I’m of an age when joints start to show signs of wear. X-rays and scans revealed severe damage and my GP advised that a total hip replacement was the only course of action. Waiting lists were already long before the pandemic and I decided to use my company’s private health scheme for the surgery. Despite being in my 60’s, I’m relatively fit and healthy and I sought a consultant/surgeon with experience of sport injuries and not just see me as someone in late middle-age. I found James Hutchinson at the Nuffield Hospital, Derby and could not have been happier! From the first consultation, right through the surgery and post-op James Hutchinson was outstanding! My surgery went well and sticking to the physio plan, I gradually began to regain the mobility I had prior to the diagnosis. After a couple of months, I was able to walk more freely and now a year on I’m walking for miles without any discomfort and rarely even think about the hip. Throughout this, James Hutchinson was informative, supportive and his skill as a surgeon in his chosen speciality is clearly exceptional! I would have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending James Hutchinson for anyone considering having hip replacement surgery. It has certainly changed my life for the better. I have been warned that my left hip may well require similar surgery in years to come and I know where I will be going when the time arrives. Thank you, James!
