Over a period of more than two years, under NHS care, my wife had gone from a vivacious, active, mature lady, to a grey, pained old lady, with a limp, a stoop, no enthusiasm and even less mobility. Her treatment had started with rub some Voltarol on your hip, and progressed through her Consultant, to numerical Oxford tests, every six months which eventually confirmed she needed a Total Hip Replacement, not sure if that diagnosis was competence on the part of the NHS Consultant, or because we worked out how to effectively do the Oxford test. During her NHS treatment, waiting times for treatment under the NHS, had risen from quite extended, through to at least two years, and on to more than five years, when it reached, according to the Medical community, we will never catch up, it was time to take control for ourselves. While we had a business, we had medical insurance, but we let it lapse on retirement. The cost of a hip replacement, according to the internet, was going to be less than the annual fees we would have paid had we continued paying from retirement, so a no brainer. We are both naive with regard to Medical care, and selected Nuffield Derby, because it was local, we selected James Hutchinson because he was clearly academically well trained and my wife said he had kind eyes. A couple of working days after contacting Nuffield, we met Mr. Hutchinson, after the briefest of physical examinations, his experience was able to confirm that my wife needed a Full Hip Transplant, he ordered an X ray which confirmed his diagnosis. His constant calm and reassuring manner, coupled to his ability to make the procedure appear to be just another day in the office, without being flippant, kept my wife at ease throughout the consultation and helped her accept the treatment being offered with open arms. Six weeks after that consultation my wife was admitted to the Nuffield Hospital for the procedure at 7.00am. At 12.00 the same day, Mr. Hutchinson telephoned me at home, introducing himself as Jim, to confirm that she was in recovery, all had been successful, and that he was pleased with the strength of the replacement and end result. Six weeks after the procedure, we again met Mr. Hutchinson for a check up, my wife was able to walk from the car park to his office unaided by me or crutches or stick. She walked in, face radiating, no stoop, no limp, no pain, showing the total amount of mobility allowable at six weeks, and the scar,( apparently important to ladies), totally fading, indeed she has had worse scratches from gardening. I accept that I could be accused of gushing, but without reservation, because of our experience, I urge you, if you think you have need of Mr. James Hutchinson's care, then do not delay in making contact, his drive for perfection, coupled to his skill, knowledge and ability is beyond all expectation. As for our advice on improvements, it would be, do not change one thing, you are a credit to yourself and your profession. James, you have got it nailed.
