Being a very fit and active 59-year-old woman , Running Coach and completed the London Marathon I was very shocked and upset to be diagnosed with osteoarthritis of my right hip in 2017. I spent almost 2 years thereafter doing Pilates, cutting back on running and swam to try save it and put off any operation then thinking a hip resurfacing was what I needed. I saw a consultant to get ‘hip resurfacing ‘but as a small woman was told it was difficult and not guaranteed it. I went through CT scans, x-rays to pursue this hip resurfacing but at the same time decided to see Mr Hutchinson. From the moment I met him I felt safe , secure , he answered all my questions ,no fluff , straight to the point and confidently told me I needed a THR , how soon he would do it and at the Nuffield. I came away from that meeting as if a weight was lifted off my shoulders and knew I made the right decision to go with Mr Hutchinson for a THR . I then had a further appointment explaining the whole procedure and showing me the x ray of my bad hip , how she would look after and my life would be back to normal very soon. My operation date was August 2019 and although very apprehensive (only ever had one operation previously) I arrived early was taken to my room and Mr Hutchinson again giving me full confidence of the procedure I was just about to undertake and I felt secure and safe in his capable hands. My operation was a complete success and now I am back to walking several miles a day , swimming, various classes weekly and I can honestly say it has turned my life around. I am now back to my fit and active life thanks to Mr Hutchinson and his team. If you are lucky enough to see Mr Hutchinson don't hesitate, I went from a total sceptic thinking I could exercise my way out of an operation, looked at hip resurfacing but within minutes of meeting him I knew he was the surgeon I needed and accepted a THR was the way forward. His experience, professionalism and manner is second to none. Thank you just doesnt seem enough . Yasmin
