If you have been assigned Mr Hutchinson as your consultant then rest assure you are in the best of care. My mother who is now 75, developed what turned out to be a rather nasty infection in her prosthetic hip (fitted 9 years ago) The infection was caused we believe through a bug that entered her system through an endoscopy procedure and caused a leaking sinus tract which she had to live with for 12 months. Mr Hutchinson was moms 2nd opinion and thank God he was. Another surgeon wanted to perform a girdlestone procedure (totally eliminating a hip joint all together, where they fuse the femur to the pelvic bone) The first thing Mr Hutchinson did was to actually listen to us about how poorly my mother had been treated, to the point we were loosing faith and trust in the NHS. He discussed the options with my mother and offered his professional and personal opinions, making his assessment of mom as an individual not just a case. At no point was mom forced into or rushed about a decision. It got to the stage where the infection had increased and was affecting moms overall health so she opted for the hip revision operation. Mr Hutchinson took the time to explain the procedure and what to expect the outcome to be. He is a busy man but ensured both me and my mom were reassured and well informed, it was at that point he restored my faith in health care. The day of the operation I was worried sick about my mom as this was a major operation. Mr Hutchinson personally called me to say all went well. We couldn't visit as it was during lockdown, I knew she was in good hands with him and all the ward staff at Derby Hospital. Recovery..well I couldn't believe how well mom was walking after only 2 weeks..not perfect but a major improvement! Mr Hutchinson arranged for antibiotic drip to be administered at home for mom to rid her of the infection. 3 months later recent test results show the infection has now gone and I have my old mom back and it's all down to this man and his team.. I will keep saying this..I can't thank him enough. I hope my story brings you reassurance and faith..this man changes lives for the better.
