My daughter has seen Mr Jan both privately and on the NHS. Obtaining Endometriosis treatment for those under 16 can be tricky and often both routes need to be explored. Mr Jan is equally reactive regardless of route. Firstly, he listens. My daughter’s symptoms were severe (severe 24/7 pain, often unable to walk, unable to attend school) and he worked with us to establish a way forward. Despite her having Endometriosis surgery less than a year before he agreed another surgery made sense as medical treatments were proving ineffective. He found more disease than any of us imagined and excised everything he found. For the first time in nearly 2 years my daughter is pain free. This all sounds rather easy, doesn’t it? It really wasn’t and excellent paediatric gynaecological care is hard to find (we know, he was the 5th consultant we entreated to help). He and his team at Epsom & St Helier worked hard to ensure my daughter received the treatment she needed. Equally his private secretary was a star too. Not all BSGE Endometriosis Centre’s are created equal and I have no reservations in recommending Mr Jan and his entire team. We were clear about what was needed and I’m sure he found my focus onerous at times but he addressed every issue and we could not be more grateful. Being a well informed mother-patient team, able to advocate for the right care was certainly a key factor in this relationship but Mr Jan listened, reacted and then planned for success. His surgical excision skills are excellent (we were clear there should be no ablation) and the cleanness of the surgical photos we saw afterwards were textbook. He literally gave my child her life back.
