After suffering a miscarriage I was diagnosed with a large fibroid, however was told by multiple consultants at my local hospital the fibroid wasn't the cause. After suffering a 2nd and a 3rd miscarriage we knew something wasn't right. We met with a different consultant who agreed it wasn't causing the miscarriages but advised I have it removed due to the size of it and the pain I was experiencing. He recommended Dr. Jan and I was lucky that I pay for private insurance through work, which covered Dr. Jan. I got in touch with Helen, Dr. Jan's PA, who couldn't have been more helpful and prompt at responding. Not long after first contacting Helen, I had a consultation with Dr. Jan where he was calm, reassuring, and explained everything really clearly. I felt completely reassured and confident feeling like we'd found the right person. I got a date for just over 3 weeks later for the operation, and during that time I had further scans and blood tests, which was all much more thorough than I'd had at my local hospital. Just over 3 weeks later I had the operation to remove the fibroid (which turned out to be 3) as well as endometriosis. None of my scans had shown endometriosis so I was so pleased to hear that despite this, when I came to from the operation everything had been removed. Despite the size of the fibroid, the operation was done through keyhole, which still amazes me now. The scars weren't ever anything I was worried about, but they are minimal. I was really nervous for the operation but the whole team made me feel as comfortable as possible, I wasn't waiting to go in for long, and the hospital environment was the opposite of what I'm used to with hospitals! I had a call later that day from Dr. Jan who told me how the surgery went, what they found, and that they managed to remove it all safely. He also came to see me the following day, and showed me pictures of what they'd found which was really interesting. After 3 months he gave us the green light to start trying for a baby again. We were nervous after being told by so many consultants the fibroid wasn't the cause, but less than 6 months later I'm now 11 weeks pregnant - a milestone we've never reached before. We had lots of recurrent miscarriage tests which all came back as normal, the only thing that has changed between the miscarriages and this pregnancy is my surgery. When meeting Helen and Dr. Jan we were going through the most stressful time of our lives but they were reassuring, calm and prompt which is exactly what we needed. We're not out of the woods yet, but where we're at now in such a short space of time is worlds apart and we can't put into words our gratitude to them both. We travelled over an hour each time to see Dr. Jan (but to save our journey where possible he also spoke with us over the phone/zoom) and it was completely worth it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Jan to my family and friends should they ever need anything gynaecological.

Mr.Jan is an exceptional surgeon who has patience to listen to you and then make a plan to help you. He goes through the plan thoroughly and gives us time to make a informed decision and I really felt looked after and secure under his care. To complement him, he has an amazing team with his Anaesthetist Dr.Shetty who has an fantastic personality, a thorough clinician as he had a telephonic consultation with me on the previous day which helped me calm my nerves and he also had a calming presence as he put me at ease at a very stressful time of my surgery. Helen, Mr.Jan’s secretary is very friendly with excellent communication skills as she keeps you posted regularly. Keep up the good work Mr.Jan, Dr.Shetty and Helen as you are a fantastic team looking after patients like me with love, respect and care.

My daughter has seen Mr Jan both privately and on the NHS. Obtaining Endometriosis treatment for those under 16 can be tricky and often both routes need to be explored. Mr Jan is equally reactive regardless of route. Firstly, he listens. My daughter’s symptoms were severe (severe 24/7 pain, often unable to walk, unable to attend school) and he worked with us to establish a way forward. Despite her having Endometriosis surgery less than a year before he agreed another surgery made sense as medical treatments were proving ineffective. He found more disease than any of us imagined and excised everything he found. For the first time in nearly 2 years my daughter is pain free. This all sounds rather easy, doesn’t it? It really wasn’t and excellent paediatric gynaecological care is hard to find (we know, he was the 5th consultant we entreated to help). He and his team at Epsom & St Helier worked hard to ensure my daughter received the treatment she needed. Equally his private secretary was a star too. Not all BSGE Endometriosis Centre’s are created equal and I have no reservations in recommending Mr Jan and his entire team. We were clear about what was needed and I’m sure he found my focus onerous at times but he addressed every issue and we could not be more grateful. Being a well informed mother-patient team, able to advocate for the right care was certainly a key factor in this relationship but Mr Jan listened, reacted and then planned for success. His surgical excision skills are excellent (we were clear there should be no ablation) and the cleanness of the surgical photos we saw afterwards were textbook. He literally gave my child her life back.

I am 65 years old, after months and months of suffering an exhausting gynaecology problem, along with menopause medication problems, I found Mr Haider Jan. Following my consultation I was treated at Ashtead Hospital and now a few weeks following my op I feel like a new woman and I'm now taking the right menopause medication too! I feel very fortunate to have found this gynaecologist who actually understands the menopause! Mr Jan is very understanding and caring, his PA Helen Wood is always there to help and guide too. I write this in the hope it might help other women struggling to find a good gynaecologist. Jacquie E, Ashtead.

I have been extremely pleased with my care under Mr Jan from start to finish. I chose him as a consultant due to him specialising in womens health. He listened to my issues and without delay referred me to have an MRI straight away. The results came in quickly and soon enough I was having surgery to investigate. Mr Jan found exactly what he suspected and cleared all instances of my endometriosis at the same time. He is proffessional, friendly and focused on giving the patient exactly what they need in the least intrusive ways possible. I couldn't recommend enough.
