After a ruptured Achilles I was eventually seen 10 days later for surgery due to my persistent nagging of staff, this was much delayed. I had poor follow up services at RF and strange decisions regarding foot position as I healed ie stayed in full equinos rather than progressing to flatter cast each couple weeks. I was left in cast too long I had to demand to had it take off as I needed it start rehab asap- I was previously sent a letter saying follow up ie removal of cast would be delayed for a few more weeks! Eventually put in boot and progressed with wedges. I was in a lot of pain and noticed the length of tendon was clearly longer than my good tendon, I believe this was a surgical complication. As a result of poor management in terms of early mobilisation and physio , lengthening of tendon now leaves me with a weakened calf which despite all my efforts remains fatigued past 5k, and very prone to calf strains. I was and still am very active however I am now limited due to this injury. Yes the tendon was reattached, too late…and probably too long, I feel the care under dr Mann and RF in general was suboptimal.
