After complaining of ankle pain for decades, my current GP referred me to the Orthopaedic Team at Royal Free Hospital. I was lucky to be seen by Mr. Mann. He asked me to walk around his consulting room and from that suspected that I had both tendon and possibly bone issues. He sent me for X-rays, ultrasound and other scans. These showed, cysts in the bone plus bone and tendon damage. Mr. Mann explained my options. Due to the intense pain I was suffering, we agreed that the best option for me would be an ankle fusion operation. This was arranged quickly. My operation took place on 6 July 2023. After three weeks I was completely pain free. My leg was in a cast until 2 October when it was replaced with a boot. Up to that point I was not allowed to put my foot on the ground. On 16 October, Mr. Mann allowed me to walk, with crutches without the boot. There was a little pain but nothing compared to 5 July. Today, 18 October 2023, I can walk for a good few minutes indoors, with shoes and crutches, without pain. I do have a little swelling if seated for a few hours, but exercises and physio which, will commence on 30 October, will reduce that with time. I thank Mr. Mann personally for listening to me, explaining the ramifications and performing the operation. His support team should also get a mention. I thoroughly recommend Mr. Mann to others suffering with pain.
