I visited for a 1 week review with my 5 year old grandson who had a displaced distal fracture of radius and ulna. The care given by clinical staff was very good. They were caring and helpful. Listening and interacted well with my grandson. Mr Pattison in particular is approachable, gently confident and a good communicator. It is good that there is a dedicated paediatric A/E dept and clinic which is child friendly with toys , friendly surroundings and water available. The system could be improved if the discharge letter given to parents explained the review. So, if an X-ray is needed before clinic, this should have details for the parents on the letter and explain that X-ray requests are now electronic. The clinic reception staff should know this and not insist that the child needs seeing by a doctor in clinic first despite what is written in medical jargon on the present discharge slip. Signs to X-ray reception could be clearer to avoid accessing clinical areas inappropriately especially with a child. It would be good to have a dedicated theatre for emergency manipulation to avoid children having to be admitted including overnight stays ( at present adult emergency procedures preclude this) I mean all these comments to be constructive. I have enormous respect for The NHS and all it's hard working and dedicated staff.
