I first met Mr Davies at Kington hospital on one of the busiest operating days after Christmas, in early Jan 2015 I was having a lumpectomy and was very frightened,as soon as I saw Mr Davies he made me feel very safe and in good hands. A small grade 2 lobular cancer was found which was Hormone sensitive and he presented this diagnoses in a way that made me feel we could deal with it,and that long term things looked good. I'm a 57 year old Mother of 2 boys 25 and 22. As my follow up appointments continued Mr Davies gave me information and options so I felt I was very involved in my own treatment choices. He included my partner John, who has been a great support during all the appointments, which helped me as often I wasn't always able to take in all the information. Mr Davies recognised my partners support and mentioned it when he wrote letters to my GP or other Consultants. Mr Davies has also treated me in the Private system where I had a Mastectomy and a Sentinel Node biopsy. I am 2 weeks two days post operative and have almost full range of movement back. The breast has a Saline implant which will be expanded at intervals before my final reconstruction. The only discomfort I have is around the posterior part of my shoulder and it radiates down to my tricep on my operated side, it feels like it is a nerve pain but not too painful it hasn't stopped my range of movement.( I am a Pilates teacher, so I'm fairly strong and flexible) It is improving daily so if I'm worried I can contact the breast care nurse or his team. The breast.. even thought it isn't the final result, looks great although I have "lost" the nipple I have been informed about how that can be dealt with if and when I want to. I can honestly say I was so happy when the sticky support bandage was removed and saw a new "boob".which I thought looked amazing my poor friends and family have seen it also and agree with me. My partner was called by Mr Davies after my operation when I was in recovery so my partner was able to visit and see I was well before returning home. I was able to have a fairly good nights sleep in the New Victoria hospital where they are all wonderful. The next step is a bit of a break for Easter and to let everything settle down, then an appointment set up by Mr Davies to see an Oncologist about my risks and possible long term hormone treatment. Then another appointment with Mr Davies to have more Saline added to the implant. Jan Morris the breast care nurse, has been extremely helpful, I emailed her regarding the dressings and she replied the same day again putting my mind at rest. I have had my worried moments but Mr Davies and his team have been exceptional. Thank you so much
