I was referred to Dip by my GP on discovering that the cause of my 8 week period of abdominal agony was a large gallstone. My GP specifically referred me to Dip stating "He's the best laparoscopic surgeon in the area. If I had to have my gallbladder removed, he's who I'd want to do it." Great praise indeed. At my first consultation with Dip he was immediately interested in me as a person and my lifestyle etc. I mentioned that I was soon getting married and I had business travel commitments approaching. He assured me that we could get the surgery out of the way quickly without impacting my plans. I explained to Dip that I had never had surgery before and was a little worried about being knocked out by anaesthetic. I also mentioned my somewhat bizarre phobia around having my navel touched. Dip explained the whole procedure, what would happen, the risks etc. and assured me that I was in safe hands. He even volunteered to avoid my navel during surgery is I would prefer. He put me at such ease that I told him he should do whatever he needed to. On returning to my room after surgery, my partner informed me that Dip had been to see him to let him know that I was okay and would be out in a while once I'd had time to recover. The next few days I suffered some pain, however Dip had prepared me and I had no worries. On removing my dressings after ten days I discovered the smallest of scars which I imagine will disappear in no time. Two weeks later and I am fighting fit, able to eat anything I like and no longer have fears of that awful pain returning. Throughout all of my interactions with Dip he was a friendly, calming and extremely professional presence. I actually felt some sadness in leaving my post-surgery check-up as I have no reason to see him again. I give him my thanks for getting me fighting fit again and for his excellent bedside manner.
