In January 2023 I underwent breast augmentation under the care of David Lam at Claremont Hospital- Sheffield. After many years of research and consideration I finally took the plunge. I had visited many online sites in the search of a private professional surgeon, I knew I did not want to look at a big company - particularly ones that displayed airbrushed, voluptuous models in there information, as I was looking for a more modest, natural look. For context I am 42 years of age, a tall 5’9” of athletic build - I previously measured at a 32A- so I have never felt remotely curvy or womanly. I was looking for a natural small enhancement that would make me feel comfortable in underwear and a bikini. On my first visit to see Mr Lam I knew he was the person for me, so much so that at that appointment we pencilled in a surgery date. We discussed what I wanted, sizes, shapes, the procedure, all the good points and all the bad, nothing was hidden and I was well informed. I was asked to go home and perform a rice test which is essentially filling dried rice into pop socks to make replica implants. I made a second appointment to see Mr Lam as I still wasn’t sure on size- he was more than happy to see me; at this appointment we decided on 270cc tear drop implants- these were to be placed under the muscle due to my slight size, he said because of this he would increase the size by 10% to give me the desired look. So my final implant size was 300cc. The day of the operation was relaxed, I was nervous but not overly so, Mr Lam came to see me before theatre and calmed me right down. When I came round from the anaesthetic I had no pain, just some chest tightness and a sore throat which I know from a previous anaesthetic to be completely normal- I was placed in a post surgery support bra, this took a little getting used to, whilst swollen it can feel quite tight- as things settle it becomes more comfortable- I purchased a second one so I could wear one and wash one. Mr lam came to see me afterwards and was happy to tell me all went well and he was sure I would be happy with the results. The following morning he came again where he was able to show me the results, it was strange to see and whilst a little Bruised, sore and swollen I could still tell that I would be delighted with what he had done. My recovery I took really seriously- I rested entirely the first week but by day 4 had come off all pain medication as felt I could manage without. Mornings were slightly more uncomfortable- my chest felt tight, this is entirely normal and settles once up and moving. I bought a V pillow to elevate my sleeping position which was a great help. I was able to carefully shower and gradually started to lift my arms more each day to alleviate the stiffness- at 6 weeks I could resume all normal activities- I returned to the gym and carried on as normal. I had a follow up with Mr Lam at 8 weeks where we looked at my results, he was really happy and took by after photos. I have recently been measured and my new size is a 32DD- my results are very natural- I can barely at all see any scars and I am beyond delighted with my new figure. I cannot imagine having this same experience with any other surgeon, Mr Lam is a true gentleman, he is professional, he listens and advises but also adds some lighthearted humour along the way, which when having a wobble is much needed. My results speak volumes on what a talented individual he his and I cannot thank him enough for taking me on this journey which I have put off for years. Also to note, the care at spire clinic was second to none- I was very well cared for, the hospital staff, nurses and care team looked after me so well and were unbelievably kind.
