Mr Chou has a calm, reassuring confidence which meant that I felt in very good hands at all times. The surgery was performed with great skill so that I suffered virtually no discomfort and no side effects and I made a swift recovery. His team were also very knowledgable and helpful. I did find being anaesthetised in the operating theatre itself slightly disconcerting - it was both fascinating and terrifying to hear everyone preparing for the surgery while I was lying there, waiting to be put to sleep! Also, while I appreciate that it has no bearing on the quality of care, the corridors leading from the ward to the operating theatre are very tatty, poorly lit and the ceiling tiles dirty and misaligned, and this does not inspire confidence in the hospital’s overall level of maintenance. A coat of paint and a bit of Tlc to the general fabric of the environment would help reassure the patient who’s already nervous about the upcoming procedure, having just been warned about the potential side effects of infection and possible death.
