It’s a challenge to convey in words how thankful I am for Costas! I was rushed to A&E on Thursday evening with suspected appendicitis, only to find my ascending colon was blocked by a cancerous tumour. Thankfully someone, somewhere, made the decision not to operate that night so that I could see Costas the following day. After a brief exchange at 8am on Friday morning, in which Costas assured me about the emergency surgery that I desperately needed, I was in theatre. Despite no preparation, Costas successfully removed the tumour along with a significant amount of tissue in neighbouring areas, to minimise the risk of recurrence, and reconnected me internally, so no stoma was needed. Equally important, Costas made a referral to Basingstoke for the liver surgery I needed and also to oncology team for chemo. Despite taking place during the height of lockdown, my treatment and liver surgery were done in record time thanks to his diligence and speed. It’s been over a year now and the cancer hasn’t returned. I’m back playing tennis twice a week, regularly working out in the gym and in full-time work. My remaining bowel is functioning like normal. Apart from the scar, no one would ever know what took place last October. Throughout, Costas has been on-hand to answer questions and his positivity is such a welcome influence on my recovery, causing me to be even more determined to overcome. I can’t recommend him highly enough. Without doubt, he saved my life and opened the door for the treatment that followed.
