I was diagnosed 21 April 2021 with a locally advanced adenoma colon (caecal)cancer after CT scan and colonoscopy pathology results. A week later my husband and I met my surgeon Mr Simillis at Addenbrooks colorectal outpatient department. We were devastated to hear the chocking news of my advanced tumour and the real risks of complications to achieve a complete removal! I use to be a nurse and midwife and knew Mr Simillis was very concerned. However, he said he thought he could do it. Surgery was booked for the following week. Next day Mr Simillis called me to say he wanted to discuss my case once more at the next MDT Meeting. Following the meeting a descition was made to allow me (despite my PBC autoimmune disease) to have neo adjuvant chemo therapy prior to surgery to try and shrink the tumour and improve the surgical outcome. 6 cycles of FOLFOX was booked but after 3 cycles the tumour had shrunk enough to plan surgery. I had my right colonectomy by keyhole surgery 2 September. Mr Simillis came and saw me every working day. I'm extremely grateful for the surgical skills of Mr Simillis and to his descition to not go ahead with surgery initially. I now have had the histology report and result from the MDT meeting. We are delighted to have been told all cancer was removed with good cancer free margins, 20! Lymph nodes were removed all cancer free and I do not need to have any postoperative chemotherapy!! Fabulous and miraculous thank you Mr Simillis
