11th August 2022

Mr. Bailey performed a hemi-compartmental knee replacement for me on June 6th, 2022. Today is August 11th and I am fully mobile with great knee flexion and minimal soreness. It's my wedding anniversary today, and while we're probably not going out dancing I don't feel that I need to impose any other limits on our day. Mr.Bailey was concise and clear with his explanations and options, pre-op. The anaesthetist, Dr. Goldman was empathetic and willing to change his plan for a spinal anaesthetic when I advised him that I have an arachnoid cyst and an unstable bilateral Pars defect, the second of which could potentially have affected the spinal. I awoke post-op feeling sleepy but very well with no pain and just an overwhelming desire for a pint of tea. I was able to totter out to the toilet after a practice walk with crutches, and supper was very welcome. I was discharged home less than 24 hours later, completely happy and confident of the way forward with lots of leaflets and a contact number to call if things were going sideways. The physio team was fantastic (if challenging) and helped me to bend and extend my repair to full mobility. Many thanks to them. Mr.Bailey, the anaesthetics team, the nurses and physics, thank you all so much for getting me out of constant pain and that nagging feeling that the knee was going to let me down at any moment. It feels really strong now. Thank you all, it was a really good experience from Reception to farewell.
