Super star.... Following a bike accident, I had an open fracture tibia, fractured fibula and metatarsals, with lots of damaged nerves etc. I had my operation at St Marys London, where they put a titanium rod through the tibia, 2 bolts at knee and 2 bolts at ankle. The staff were wonderful and did a great job. However when it came to the long aftercare and rehab, I was still barely walking 6 months later. I was getting lost in the NHS aftercare (orthopaedics and physio) and I needed some really concentrated attention to get better. This is in no way a slight on the staff at St Marys, they were all wonderful, however the sheer volume of people they were processing meant I wasn't getting the care I needed. I went and saw a private GP (Dan Brooks - also excellent), who recommended Dr Gupte as 'the kind of surgeon who is focused on getting you better fast'. He proved just that. He is friendly, warm and kind to deal with. Excellent level of service (e.g. appointments even on a Saturday, a receptionist who deals with your concerns promptly). And most importantly an excellent level of care. Firstly, he recommended Isokinetic physio (I cannot recommend these guys enough). Secondly, when my tibia wasn't healing he recommended an exogen machine. This helped in regrowing the bone and thus avoiding removal of the tibia rod and replacement with a huge rehab after. Thirdly he went on to remove a bolt at the ankle that was causing problems. And last week another operation to remove 3 bolts and perform an arthroscopy. After a week I''m in good shape after a well handled operation. I don't know what the future holds for my leg shenanigans but I feel in the best hands possible with Dr Gupte. And with any luck I many not to see that lovely fellow again!!
