My son was referred to Mr Jowett at YDH following a “sprained” ankle which following an X-ray review turned out to be a fracture. The fracture was unusual for a child. After the review I had been told that there was a possibility of an operation which clearly shocked and worried me greatly. Mr Jowett phoned me, clearly explaining the X-ray and making me feel completely informed whilst also reassuring me. He suggested a scan to look more closely at the fracture. Following this, luckily no op was needed. My son was in a cast for 6 weeks and during that time he had the ankle re-x-rayed to make sure it was healing correctly which was important given his age. He even came into see him whilst having his cast on, something I would not expect of a busy consultant of this calibre. We saw Mr Jowett on numerous occasions and each time he was extremely personable, friendly and explanatory. On one occasion he even showed myself and my son the X-ray and clearly showed us the actual fracture. He got it emailed to me so my son could show his classmates too! A nice touch especially for a child! Months later we had a follow up with another X-ray to finally check and all was well. The whole process was utterly excellent. Every apt was on time, we were personally seen and kept informed. His clinic was very well organised especially given this COVID situation. One thing that struck me through out this experience was that Mr Jowett was extremely thorough, leaving no stone unturned and because of this I had every faith in him as the excellent consultant he is. I cannot express how grateful I was to him from a very worried mum’s perspective and was one of the best consultant experiences I have had in my life time, and I have had quite a few! A 5 star service that has left me very confident in him and the NHS - thank you.
