I remember reading all the lovely reviews for Mr White before my surgery and now I can see why... In 2017, I was diagnosed with an intramedually ependymoma at T6/7 (a tumour inside my spinal cord). Quite a shock to say the least! I was then referred to Mr White to discuss the options. He clearly has a passion for his work and a relaxed, friendly manner that really puts you at ease. He happily answered my very long list of questions and realising how inquisitive I am, we studied my x-rays and gave me all the information I needed. As my tumour wasn't causing me any real problems (only a mild stinging sensation in my hip/thigh) he gave me the option of surgery, but was happy for me to watch & wait with annual MRIs and the open offer of surgery at any time. Suddenly, out of the blue, in July 2020 I started having back pain. My MRI was due and it showed that the tumour had grown to the point where surgery was needed quite urgently. On the 19th August 2020 I had a laminectomy, where Barrie and his team successfully removed 100% of the tumour. Not only is he a skilled surgeon but he also has a kind & gentle bedside manner, I felt in safe hands. I never would have thought that having a spinal tumour could have any positives but there have been quite a few during my strange journey! The NSPU staff at QMC have actually left me with happy memories of my 9 day stay. Thank you for caring for me... and for saving my life. Forever thankful, Sally & family xxx
