I recently slipped a disc in my lumbar region in quite inauspicious circumstances, stretching in bed and experienced absolutely crippling pain. Following the advice of my Physiotherapist I contacted my GP for more effective pain relief only to be referred for a MRI scan to rule out Cauda Equina syndrome. This thankfully the local hospital did, but erring on the side of caution I contacted Mr B Roy Chaudhary for what I thought was going to be a second opinion, the NHS not particularly troubled by my scan but equally not sharing the detail with me. Mr Roy Chaudhary was immediately attentive to my condition and the threat of complications that it posed and during the video consultation he impressed me with his candour, simple explanations of the cause and implications of my condition and the severity of the problem. He listened attentively to my history and I have to say was able to empathise with my condition. He also shared the images from the scan and talked me through the implications which were quite apparent from the pictures. His follow up letter was almost word for word and I felt that I was in the hands of someone who was on top of his game. Despite the possible complications of surgery, his calm and considered explanations and recognition of my hesitancy reassured me to the extent that I opted for surgery (Lumbar microdiscetomy) knowing that I would be well cared for. I have to say that throughout the surgical experience I was kept informed and reassured at all times. I was fully aware that I may have more pain and discomfort and some other neurological affects as a result of the procedure and so when they manifested themselves post op I was not surprised or alarmed. Mr Chaudhary's account of the procedure and explanation for how I was feeling was accurate and again, reassuring. Subsequently I was able to walk out of the hospital feeling more confident that I would not experience a catastrophic relapse of the spinal condition and in no real pain at all. 3 months after the procedure I can report steady progress to full fitness. I still have some issues with my calf muscle, a mild weakness in the left leg and the sciatic nerve on the affected side but these are lessening with each week as I maintain the exercise regime. In summary I cannot recommend Mr Chaudhary enough. He is a warm and genuine man, who cares deeply about his patients. He is attentive, listens closely to the patient, notes their experience and goes out his way to explain and reassure any individual. His skill in performing the procedures is manifest and I have no hesitation in recommending him for anyone who has this particular condition should they need surgery. As someone who is generally an intervention conservative he managed to convince me to place myself in his care through sheer force of personality and competence. Thank you Mr Chaudhary for looking after. me so well.
