I had a relapse of a s1l5 disc bulge following previous surgery from another surgeon 6 years ago. Once the diagnosis was received Roy spoke to me about the options available and the risks involved in those options. Having met a few consultants in my time, I would say that Roy's consenting process was the most clear and friendly I have received. The final decision was to go ahead with a redo disectomy. As this was a second surgery on the same site, there was a lot of scar tissue present and as discussed some one of the risks that Roy pointed out did happen. Roy and his surgical team took this in there stride and dealt with them. As the surgery took a little longer than expected Roy took the time to see my wife and explain what had happened and what the next steps were for my recovery. Everyday of my hospital stay, Roy came in and checked on me daily and personally checked on the wound at two weeks. I would also note that the anaesthetist also checked on me for the first few days and ensured my pain relief was enough. This was my fourth surgery, and I not come across a nicer team. The extra care given to me was second to none. I would highly recommend using Roy and his team.
