I was treated with the utmost respect and good humour, the latter putting me at ease very quickly and thus enabling me to explain clearly how my disability affected my life. As to the operation and all following procedures l believe this to be of the highest standard and my following progress statement following the operation will identify the success. - l am 80 years of age, even so, if it were not for a delay in obtaining a bed; both at the beginning of the procedure and on leaving recovery, l firmly believe l could have had the operation and been discharged the same day. As it was l was released the following day. - On leaving the hospital l could not obtain an appointment with a local physiotherapist until a month later. It is true to say that l followed the hospitals physiotherapy advise and applied myself diligently to the exercises, such that when l did take up my appointment l could bend my knee to120 degrees and flatten my leg into a straight position. (the goal). Upon ascertaining the above flexibility the physiotherapist said she had no reason to see me again. To be absolutely clear.... l required no physiotherapy input from her whatsoever. In my book a 'Result, l have my active life back'. As to suggestions to improve care, all l would say is that if the bed shortage situation be eradicated there is no reason that operation and discharge could not be effected on the same day. Especially on younger patients than l. l would commend the whole team assisting with my operation and the nursing staff on Ward 8. Than you all!
