I fell 5m from a ladder in late March 2018 and was taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford. Following X-rays, they realised my shattered hip could not be repaired by them and thankfully I was transferred to Mr Carrothers at Addenbrooke’s Cambridge University Hospital. Mr Carrothers and his team repaired my shattered hip with metal plates and screws. Then, under a second operation a week later, I had a new artificial hip joint. The expertise and care I received from Mr Carrothers and his team was incredible and I am eternally grateful that I was in such good hands. After 12 months I was able to do all the things that I could do before my accident i.e. hiking, cycling, swimming, etc. I am most sincere when I say that if it wasn’t for Mr Carrothers and his team I would not be able to carry on my normal fully active life. As a PS, I add that following discharge from hospital one needs to take advantage of the NHS physiotherapy, and continue to build up muscle strength, flexibility and strength by going to a gym. I cannot recommend Mr Carrothers highly enough. David Holliwell (aged 75)
