I had spent several years in excruciating pain. Sciatica, hamstring pains, knee pain, ankle pain, glute cramps and eventually bouts of incontinence. I initially spoke with one of his registrars (dr steak/stake?) who was so calming and gave me my first feeling of hope. I had been previously refused surgery for a compressed spine because of underlying problems,3 heart attacks, diabetus, asthma and morbidly obese. I lost 4.5 stone before my operation :). The day of the operation i was feeling quite negative and had bouts of suicidal thoughts. From 7am until i left at 4pm the same day I received the most perfect treatment from reception, nurses,Mr Bacon and the anaesthetist. I voiced my anxiety concerns about a canula in my hand on the way to surgery and it was inserted in the cubicle in pre op which stopped my normal concerns. I was treat with respect and care by all involved. I came out of my general anaesthetic feeling relaxed because i went to sleep relaxed. I was returned to pre op as i did not need HDU as expected and within minutes i was given tea and toast then got off my bed for the first time. I could stand and walk pain free for the first time in years. I was discharged at 4pm and walked out to my waiting husband, to his shock as we expected a long arduous recovery. I am now 9 days post op, no pain and my mobility is wonderful. Thank you so much everybody concerned X Amanda Gill
