Mr Ali Abbasian treated me from 2016 - 2018 for a number of issues with my right foot, that originated when I was a teenager. Over time the issues grew worse until the issues were finally identified and I was referred by a registrar to Mr Abbasian as he was the expert in this area. He was most interested in my condition and explained his operation plan to remedy the issues, as a result I felt confident with his decisions as I very much wanted to continue practising yoga and did not want to be impaired in any way as a result. After waiting 6 months on the NHS waiting list, Mr Abbasian performed a complicated major Cavovarus Foot Reconstruction (hind foot), which was successful with no complications. Of-course I had no idea beforehand just how major it was, I wish I had really understood, perhaps if the word 'major' had been used more often beforehand I would have been better prepared. Mr Abbasian continued to monitor my recuperation during 2016 and 2017 and encouraged me to continue working my way towards full recovery and, after some months I was able I returned to practising yoga. However as much as I could I finally realised that I could not continue with the pain that I now felt, as the rest of my foot and ankle had not adjusted to the major operation in 2016 and this was impacting on my ankle. I emailed Mr Abbasian regarding my concerns and his immediate reply was that he put me on the waiting list for a second major operation. Although we had discussed the further options previously I was impressed by his immediate response to my concerns. After another 6 months on the waiting list in June 2018 Mr Abbasian performed an Ankle Fusion, which again was successful and without any complications. As the operation was arthroscopic the healing time was the same but the overall impact on my health was minimal. Nine weeks after the operation I returned to daily hot yoga and I realised that I was finally pain free, although I still had some discomfort but that has gradually eased. Three and a half months later I'm practising the hardest hot yoga classes and feel marvellous considering my foot is still healing and will continue to do so for some months. To summarise, although the issues that I had were finally identified in 2016 resulting in my first major operation and then in 2018 a second operation was required as the foot had not adjusted to the first operation. Mr Abbasian could have done both operations in 2016. However he knew how important yoga was to me to stay fit and healthy, so he obviously took that into account. Its important to have surgeon that listens to the patient and takes their view into account. I highly recommend Mr Abbasian as his dedication, professionalism and care is second to none.
