I saw Mr Casey in June 2017. Although he was polite and pleasant, he allowed his registrar to examine me who was suspicious of my symptoms and indeed who kept saying, "This doesn't add up." This referred to my extremely weak hand with which I had little function. Fast forward 18 months and I had surgery for neurogenic and vascular thoracic outlet syndrome. It was extremely upsetting being treated in this way. I did mention that I had suspicions that I had vascular thoracic outlet but Mr Casey said he knew nothing about it. With all due respect, I think that a senior spinal surgeon really should know something about this syndrome as many patients are seen who have extreme neck pain and upper body dysfunction - in this way they will often end up seeing a spinal surgeon. Please update your clinical knowledge Mr Casey and do not let your patients be undermined by registrars ( we have all paid our N.I. contributions and do not deserve this.)
