After having twins 5 years ago I was left with muscle separation (diastasis recti) which made me look pregnant and an unsightly overhang over the c section scar. I had a year of physio to try and close the gap and lead a relatively healthy live style but nothing seemed to reduce the shape I was left with or reduce the back pain. I was very self conscious and depressed. I didn’t feel like myself and always wore baggy clothes to try and hide the bulge. Over the past 5 years I consulted several plastic surgeons but just couldn’t make the final decision to have the operation as I had the added complication of factor v Leiden which increases risk of clots. Then I had a consultation with Mr Sawyer and after a few months of thinking about taking the plunge I finally decided to have the operation. Mr Sawyer was amazing, he was very honest from the outset and explained all the risks. He was super friendly and I didn’t feel uncomfortable or embarrassed like I had at previous consultations. I didn’t feel pressured in making a decision and spent time thinking about if I should go ahead with the operation. I also spoke with Mr Sawyers secretary (Claire) several times talking over my worries and concerns. On the day of the operation, Mr Sawyer arrived promptly to see me and draw all over my tummy and his manner put me at ease and I felt I was in the best possible care. After the operation I remember just feeling elated that I had found the courage to have the operation and looked down at my stomach and couldn’t believe how flat my tummy was. As expected the first few weeks were rather uncomfortable but after about 3 weeks I felt pretty ok and stopped pain relief. I am now 6 weeks post op and had a check up today with Mr Sawyer who confirmed everything looks as it should at this stage. I am honestly thrilled and couldn’t be happier with the result and can’t thank Mr Sawyer enough for giving me my confidence back.
