I initially consulted my GP as I had had swollen ankles for three months continuously and was also suffering from extreme cramps in my legs every night which woke me up and caused me to have to jump out of bed to stand to relieve the cramp. My GP referred me to Mr Howard as she felt this could indicate a varicose vein problem. I did not suffer from "rope-like" veins but had had patches of thread veins on my calves and ankles since I had been pregnant over forty years earlier. Mr Howard looked at my veins using ultrasound and recommended that I have some in-patient treatment where I believe heat is introduced into the veins which makes them close down. This I had done in August. Then in December and February I had a couple of out patient appointments with Mr Howard when he injected a substance into the thread veins which again I believe closes them down and makes them disappear. It is now March and one week since my last and final out patient treatment. The appearance of my legs has improved immensely and I no longer have swollen ankles or night cramps. Six and four weeks ago I flew long haul to and from a holiday and my ankles did not even swell up then - and I have suffered with swollen ankles after even short haul flights for about 25 years! During my course of varicose vein treatment I was treated with courtesy, everything was explained fully to me, and I was very satisfied with all my treatment and care, both as a day patient and an out patient. I would thoroughly recommend this course of treatment and Mr Howard to perform it.
